The Lisa Coscino Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of its new exhibitions. The MAIN GALLERY will feature the work of Santa Barbara painter, Nicole Strasburg in an exhibit entitled "Current". The MID GALLERY will feature black and white prints by Los Angeles artist Artemio Rodriguez. The exhibitions will open on Friday, September 19th and continue through October 25th. There will be a reception on Friday evening, September 19th from 6-8pm. In addition to the artists being present, notable art collector, Richard Weisman will be on hand that evening to sign copies of his book "From Picasso to Pop" and to showcase part of his collection of Andy Warhol paintings. Richard Weisman grew up in an extended family of art patrons and collectors. Richard's mother, Marcia, was one of the original founders of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles (MOCA). His uncle Norton Simon, one of the pioneers of collecting impressionist art in the United States, built the Norton Simon Museum on Pasadena. Over the years, Richard has developed his own unique eye and personal relationships with several important artists of his generation. The book highlights works from his collection, past and present. He will be bringing several paintings from the "Athletes Series" that he commissioned Andy Warhol to create in 1979. This will be the second exhibition at the Lisa Coscino Gallery of the work of Nicole Strasburg. Santa Barbara painter, Strasburg, spent the summer traveling along the coast of Ireland. Inspired by the sea both at home and abroad, her newest paintings examine water and movement. The show, aptly entitled "Currents" will feature large and small works on wood: studies, meditations, water flow, waves, currents. Los Angeles printmaker, Artemio
Rodriguez was born in Michoacan, Mexico and is part of the renown printing
studio in LA, Self Help Graphics. Self Help Graphics was founded in 1972
and has been of primary importance to the Chicano Arts Movement in the
United States. It gives local artists access to printmaking studios, workshops
and gallery space. Rodriguez has recently published a book through La
Mano Press on the historic works of Jose Guadalupe Posada, one of Mexico's
greatest artists. For this exhibition, we will be presenting a cross section
of Artemio's work, linocuts, woodblock prints and books. His work is in
the collection of the LA County Museum, Laguna Art Museum and the book
collection at UCLA.
