Introduction to Michel Tsouris' Train of Thought series:

TRYING TO FIND OUT WHICH PLANE I’M ON...

"Often I wonder: where I am, if, I am; how it is I am that I am; if in fact, I am.
I don’t mean to sound flip with these questions, I am quite serious about them.
I often experience a sort of evaporative existence, like not being able to see myself specifically.; like not being able to pin point where you end and where I begin, where the space between us begins and ends. I sense some mysterious porousness and it is all at once unsettling and very reassuring.
There is much in our culture that leads us all to conclude that each one of us, each person, place, thing; animate and inanimate; organic and inorganic, is discrete, definable, bounded, named, identified, verified at a specific time and occupying a specific point in space.

The paintings that I present in this series have few references to quantified place; the objects in the paintings are animated in a space that can be perpetually reinterpreted. The objects all serve as metaphors. I can give you some idea of how I have come to interpret the work, but I encourage you to find your own way through the imagery and through the endless relationships they may suggest. "
