The
Lisa Coscino Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of its
next exhibitions. The FRONT GALLERY will feature selected
black and white prints from La Mano Press . The MID GALLERY
will feature new work by local artist LESLEY ANNE SPOWART in an
exhibition entitled: "(to have a happy childhood) it's never too
late" . The exhibitions will open on Friday, 18 February
and continue through March 26. There will be an Opening
Reception on Friday, February 18th from 6-8 pm . The Gallery
is located at 216 Grand Avenue in Pacific Grove.
La Mano Press is an artist run center in Los Angeles dedicated
to the promotion and appreciation of printmaking. La Mano
Press was started by a small group of dedicated artists in a time
when printmaking facilities, exhibiting and publishing has become
difficult for new artists and even more difficult for Latino Artists.
This exhibition will feature the work of Artemio Rodriguez, Joel
Rendon, Unai San Martin, Poli Marichal, Daniel Gonzales and Ixrael.
Working in a variety of mediums, from linocuts to photogravure,
these artists share a love and knowledge of printmaking.
Their diverse cultural backgrounds serve as a backdrop for their
artwork: sometimes political, sometimes humorous and always
culturally identifying, the work which comes out of La Mano Press
celebrates what it is to be living in the world today. We
have featured Artemio Rodriguez' work in a solo show in the past
and his new work can also be seen on our website www.artinthevault.com.
Local Artist Lesley Anne Spowart's new work is a departure for
her in many ways. Still incorporating printmaking, photography
and painting, this new body of work is presented in layers behind
plexi glass, an allusion to the layers that we all live our lives
in. In this show, Spowart goes back into her past, to her
roots, to piece together where she has been, how it has influenced
who she has become and how it will continue to grow and build
into the future and continue to influence who she still has yet
to be. It is Spowart's belief that we all share similarities,
universal truths and experiences and that through viewing some
of her own life, the viewer may get an opportunity to integrate
their own life and reinterpret it in a different way. "(to
have a happy childhood) it's never too late" gives us the
chance to pose the question, could we become all that we
dreamt as children, if we allow ourselves the journey?
