The Lisa Coscino Gallery
is pleased to announce the opening of its new exhibitions. The
Main Gallery will feature the work of Bud Gordon in
an exhibition titled "Images of Home". In the
Mid Gallery we will feature the work of Dianna Cohen
in an exhibition titled, " Images from The Curse".
The exhibitions will open on May 21st and continue through July
3rd. There will be an artists' reception on Friday,
21 May from 6-8pm. The Gallery is located at 216 Grand Avenue
in Pacific Grove.
This will be Bud Gordon's
second one-person show with the Gallery. Gordon lives and paints
in Sacramento and this show will consist of new work in watercolor
and oil, the subject matter being the Sacramento urban landscape
and figures. Having studied with Wayne Thiebaud as well as Robert
Arneson, Gordon's work combines the best of two and three dimensional
work. His canvasses incorporate globs of enamel housepaint as
undercoating which he then works very hard to conceal and camouflage.
Gordon's watercolors are torn and collaged together so that they
become photographic at a distance and break down into color and
pattern up close. Gordon's work engages the viewer in a cat and
mouse game of trying to decide what is below the surface.
This will be Los Angeles
artist, Dianna Cohen's second one person show with the Gallery
as well. Cohen, who creates abstract collages out of found plastic
bags hand sewn together, has also recently edited a book titled
"The Curse: Stories, Writings, Poems, Musings and Snatches
of Conversations about Getting Your Period". The work for
this exhibition is based on stories from this book and follows
the various themes within. The work created for this show was
done in Australia where Cohen has been doing an Artist Residency.
The new work also combines watercolor and drawing into the collage
medium. She will be at the reception where we will be doing a
book signing as well.
