Landscapes of the Elkhorn Slough

My paintings initially start with abstract shapes of basic information. As the paintings progress these shapes resolve themselves into recognizable landscape images. They are executed in the exact saturated value of color, that best captures the emotional mood or essential character of the place. I am hoping viewers will be caputured by the viual impact and calm beauty of the Elkhorn Slough.

The Elkhorn Slough is one of California's last remaining Wetlands. The Slough area encompasses 4,238 acres surround by rolling hills of oak groves, maritime chaparral and grass meadows and is the saltwater marsh habitat for a diverse number of aquatic animals, fish and birds. In fact the Elkhorn Slough is a major breeding ground for so many species, that without the Slough the fishing industries would probably decline resulting in a diminished bio-system.

Not only is Elkhorn Slough a breeding ground for many species, but it also provides recreational trails for walking and bird watching. Small boats and kayaks may be seen gliding on its serene waters. The scenic beauty of the Slough below the surface supports additional ecosystems which sustain the native life that grow and live in this area.
The open space of the Slough provides balance that we need for our personal serenity, and give vitality to many of nature's wildlife creatures. To disturb this equilibrium, to change this vital balance, may be a price higher than our imagination can fathom.

Support for the Elkhorn Slough by direct action, and through monetary donations, will help promote and underscore the environment effort that is continually needed to protect a North Monterey County treasure.
