The Lisa Coscino Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of its next exhibition in celebration of Los Dias de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). The Main Gallery will feature an installation by Mexico City artist Jorge Llaca. The Front Gallery will host an installation by Carmel artist Jana Weston, granddaughter of photographer Edward Weston, in celebration of the Weston family. The exhibitions will open on Friday, October 25th and continue through November 16th. There will be an artists' reception on Friday, October 25th from 6-8pm. Both artists will be present. If possible, please wear white. This will be the second installation celebrating Los Dias de los Muertos that the gallery has hosted with Jorge Llaca. Both Llaca's and Weston's installations will be interactive and include text. Weston's installation is based on the tradition of painting and decorating skulls in honor of those who have passed away. Llaca's installation will be loosely based on the concept of coming to terms with your own death by eating your 'last supper'. In addition to these two installations, the gallery will present an artists' altar. Approximately 40 mostly local artists have been invited to contribute an ofrenda for the altar in honor of someone who has influenced their artwork. The exhibition will
also feature work by artists whose subject matter is the Days of the Dead.
Included in this grouping are: Kevin Flynn, Artemio Rodriguez, Jana Weston
and Jorge Llaca.
