Local artist, Anita Benson's show will feature black and white works on paper that examine many of the thoughts and contemplations of our daily lives. The work ranges in subject matter from empty boats and foggy seascapes to triptychs loosely based on the Wizard of Oz. As we grow older and contemplate life's mysteries, black and white work can often reflect the general gray areas that many of us find. This will be the first exhibition of black and white work from Anita Benson. Baltimore artist,
Jen Huber, paints what she likes to call "chain store portraits",
living in a more urban environment than the peninsula, Huber draws from
her daily life's experiences as a woman and mother in her paintings. The
"Target Checkout" and "Rite Aid Parking Lot" are the
landscapes of the urban world; they also creep into our idyllic everyday
existence here. Huber reminds us, as did Edward Hopper earlier, that these
"chain store's" are our generations' legacy - and that we must
celebrate what is familiar.
